Presenters' Guidelines

The following guidelines should help you to prepare for the conference and your presentation. During the main conference we have three different forms of presentations:

Each will be discussed below.

Showcases

The Annual CLARIN Meeting 2013 in Prague is dedicated to showing the achievements of the national consortia, especially the application of the CLARIN infrastructure in showcases. The showcases should inspire other countries, provide material for reaching out to the community of the humanities and social sciences and show the strengths of the use of the CLARIN infrastructure. The intended form of presentation is a 20-minute plenary live demonstration of each showcase.

The demonstration can cover the following:

  • Motivate the showcase
  • Provide background information
  • Demonstrate the application as it is used

Though the audience will consist of CLARIN developers, please refrain from going into too many technical details. To use an analogy: if the showcase is the car in the showroom and the demonstration is showing the car at the trade show, the details of the engine may not be the most relevant in this context.

Available equipment:

  • Video projector (VGA connection)
  • Microphone for the presenter
  • Connection of computer audio out (3.5mm) to the loudspeaker system
  • WiFi access

If wanted, a laptop of one of the organizers can be used for the presentation, but please consider bringing your own system on which the showcase has been tested.

Points of Pride

Points of Pride are resources and services the national consortia are proud of, not necessarily showcases. We do not require original work but expect that the connection to the CLARIN infrastructure and interests are made evident.

Format of the contributions: On Tuesday from 10-10:30 each Point of Pride will have some time to advertise and motivate their poster. The timeslots will be equally distributed over all presentations, hence we expect a maximum of 1-2 minutes. To promote the Points of Pride presenters may provide 1-2 Powerpoint slides before the beginning of the conference, the latest on Friday, October 18th, noon (Europe). These slides will be part of the slideshow during the breaks and can be used during the poster promotion minute. After these presentations, the presenters will be available at their posters/demos for detailed discussions from 10:30 to 12.

Available equipment

  • WiFi access
  • Poster wall (for A0 size paper, portrait)
  • Table for laptop or other material

Please bring your own poster and/or demonstration computer.

Plenary presentation

These presentations are the typical form of conference presentations.

Available equipment

  • Video projector (VGA)
  • Microphone for the presenter
  • Connection of computer audio out (3.5mm) to the loudspeaker system
  • WiFi access

If wanted, a laptop of one of the organizers can be used for the presentation, but please consider bringing your own system on which the slides have been tested.
