[CANCELLED] IEEE metadata hackathon and workshop in Berlin

Monday, 19 March, 2018 (All day) to Tuesday, 20 March, 2018 (All day)

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Due to insufficient registrations, the CLARIN track of the IEEE metadata hackathon and workshop in Berlin is CANCELLED. Our apologies for the inconvenience that this cancellation might cause. We hope to organise a hackathon instead in connection to a future annual conference.

The IEEE Big Data Governance and Metadata Management group (BDGMM) will run a workshop and hackathon along with the Research Data Alliance (RDA) Eleventh Plenary Meeting. This two-day event will consist of two parallel 24-hour hackathon tracks and a plenary workshop session on big data governance and metadata management. CLARIN organises one hackathon track, which revolves around the analysis, curation, processing, presentation and management of metadata for resources relevant to the social sciences and humanities. Hackathon participants will attempt to improve metadata quality, discoverability, presentation or completeness using their preferred methods and tools. A jury will assess the results in terms of creativity, efficiency, output and technical approach. Participants can register as teams or individually, in which case they will be entered into a team.

This combined hackathon and workshop event will take place at the campus of the Technical University of Berlin in the context of the RDA plenary's Industry Side Meeting. The hackathon will kick off on Monday 19 March 2018. Candidates will then have 24 hours to implement a solution to one or more metadata related challenges. A panel of metadata experts will evaluate the implemented solutions. On Tuesday 20 March, various speakers will present during the Workshop sessions. At the end of this day, an award ceremony will take place in which the winners of the hackathon will be announced. Cash awards will be handed out to the numbers 1, 2 and 3 of the CLARIN hackathon.

Registration for participation in the hackathon is open until 12 March 2018 for anyone interested. Full papers for the workshop can be submitted until the 26 February 2018. Hackathon participation does not require the submission of a paper, nor does paper submission/acceptance imply participation in the hackathon. Registration for the RDA plenary is not required in order to register for the hackathon/workshop event; the registration procedure allows you to opt-out of attending the plenary. A registration fee of €150 applies to the hackathon and workshop event.

See the organiser's event page for details and up-to-date information, including the programme and information on registration.
