Exploring new ways of harvesting and generating sign language resources

, - ,

Sign language corpora have become important data collections for research in recent years. This workshop aims to zoom in on the potential of other types of sign language videos: on the one hand historical film and video recordings, and on the other hand present-day online videos like on YouTube. The workshop brings together people from a variety of fields:

  • sign language linguistics
  • deaf history
  • social science research on deaf communities
  • broadcasting companies
  • (digital) libraries with expertise in film/video digitisation
  • ethics of new technologies
  • legal expertise on IPR (intellectual property right) issues and licensing
  • crowd sourcing to collect data and help in collecting metadata and annotations.
