CLARIN Newsflash September 2019

CLARIN 2019 Countdown
30 September - 2 October 2019, Leipzig,Germany 

With less than two weeks to go until the CLARIN2019 conference, we are looking forward to welcoming all participants in Leipzig! 

The conference programme consists of keynote talks by Professor Scott Rettberg (University of Bergen, Norway) and Professor Elke Teich (University of the Saarland, Germany), plus 25 oral and 19 poster and demo presentations. The CLARIN2019 Book of Abstracts contains abstracts of invited talks, oral presentations and posters. Proceedings of CLARIN2019 with full abstracts will be online soon.  

As part of her farewell, Bente Maegaard (former Vice-Executive Director of CLARIN ) will give a speech during the ‘State of the Infrastructure’ slot (9:40-10:10, Tuesday 1 October).

Tour de CLARIN: Hungary

This month ‘Tour de CLARIN’ visited Hungary. The national CLARIN consortium for Hungary, HunCLARIN, joined CLARIN ERIC in 2016. The Research Institute for Linguistics was one of the founding partners of CLARIN and took an active role in the preparatory phase of the history of CLARIN.  The recent Tour de CLARIN blog posts include an introduction to HUN-CLARIN, the resource Multimodal HuComTech Corpus and the tool e-magyar.

Helsinki Di­gital Hu­man­it­ies Hack­a­thon #DH­H19

During the Helsinki Digital Humanities Hackathon #DH­H19, students and researchers of humanities, social sciences, and computer science came together at the University of Helsinki. The groups applied digital methods to a variety of datasets, with the goal of solving research questions in Social Sciences and Digital Humanities. This year, the event was organized as an international summer school sponsored by CLARIN and DARIAH.

Europeana Research Grants Programme - 2019 Call for Submissions

This year marks the fourth call for proposals within the Europeana Research Grants Programme, and represents the first research grants call intended to support events. The aim with the 2019 grants is to bring together cultural heritage professionals and researchers interested in digital cultural heritage. There is €25,000 available to support these events.

Applicants are invited to submit proposals that address challenges and opportunities related to the reuse of cultural heritage data in research, or provide training to build up the digital capabilities of cultural heritage professionals involved in research projects. 

The deadline for submissions is 31 October 2019.

PARTHENOS Impact Event
4 October 2019, Rome, Italy

The PARTHENOS Impact Event will showcase the results and achievements of four and a half years of PARTHENOS. To demonstrate impact and inspire future collaboration, the programme will feature key topics, with PARTHENOS speakers and external guests who will explain how they have benefitted from PARTHENOS.

PARTHENOS invites end users who have used and benefited from the work of the project to present their experience and feedback for 15-20 minutes at the Impact Event. Travel and subsistence costs will be covered by the project to those invited to speak.

Call for Applications - DESIR Winter School: Shaping New Approaches to Data Management in Arts and Humanities
10-13 December 2019, Lisbon, Portugal

In the framework of the Horizon 2020 funded project DESIR, DARIAH is organising a Winter School called "Shaping new approaches to data management in arts and humanities" on the topic of sustainable practices to open up data in the arts and humanities.The call for applications is open and the deadline for applications is 30 September 2019.

Call for Papers and Call for pre-Conference Workshops at ICTeSSH 2020
29 June – 01 July 2020, Amsterdam, the Netherlands

The Conference covers multiple themes in multiple categories, among which performing research, collaboration, dissemination and management. 

Call for Papers 

A Call for Papers has been published for the International Conference on ICT-enhanced Social Sciences and Humanities (ICTeSSH 2020). The organisers are looking for three types of contribution: presentations on ICT tools and digital infrastructures, research papers, and technical papers. The language of the conference will be English.

The deadline for submitting extended abstracts is 29 November 2019. Presenters will be notified of acceptance by 31 January 2020.
