Registration for Virtual CLARIN Café I & II is Open
The registration for the first two virtual CLARIN Café’s is open:
CLARIN Café I: CLARIN in times of Corona is organized by CLARIN Ambassador Prof. Toine Pieters. This Café aims to be a venue for the exchange of Corona-related research ideas and results. It will provide a platform for discussion and inspiration on the possibilities of the CLARIN infrastructure to support research in terms of technologies and tools as well as interactions with fellow researchers in order to stimulate European collaborations and cross-national comparative Corona-related research. This Café will take place on 27 May 2020, from 15:00 to 16:15.
CLARIN Café II: How to use CLARIN in (online) higher education, organized by CLARIN Ambassador Assoc. Prof. Francesca Frontini, is dedicated to using CLARIN resources in (online) higher education. What can CLARIN do to support such needs? What can we learn from the success stories, but also from the less positive ones? This CLARIN Café will be an opportunity to meet, find inspiration for new teaching solutions, collect feedback and needs, and share ideas. This Café will take place on 10 June 2020, from 14:30 to 16:15.

CLARIN and COVID-19
CLARIN aims at supporting COVID-19 related research in the social and political sciences domain.
In the CLARIN and COVID-19 page you can find information on CLARIN’s new funding call for virtual events, as well as a number of pointers to (i) initiatives for data collection and infrastructural support, and (ii) language resources and natural language processing tools that can be of relevance for the study of COVID-19-related phenomena. Tour de CLARIN: Germany
This month ‘Tour de CLARIN’ visited Germany. The national consortium CLARIN-D has been contributing to the CLARIN research infrastructure since 2008.
The recent Tour de CLARIN blog posts include an introduction to CLARIN-D, the tools WebLicht and WebMAUS and the resources German Reference Corpus (DeReKo) and German Text Archive (DTA).

CLARIN Resource Families: Computer-mediated Communication (CMC) Corpora
The CLARIN Resource Families initiative provides a user-friendly overview of the available language resources in the CLARIN infrastructure for researchers from digital humanities, social sciences and human language technologies.
This month CLARIN highlights the Computer-mediated communication (CMC) corpora. CMC constitutes public and private communication on-line, such as posts on blogs, forums, comments on online news sites, social media and networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook, mobile phone applications such as WhatsApp and e-mail. These corpora are interesting for a wide range of research fields, such as language variation, pragmatics, media and communication studies, etc.
The CLARIN infrastructure offers 13 CMC corpora - most are available for Slovenian, but also for Czech, Dutch, Estonian, Finnish, French, German and Lithuanian. Most of the corpora are richly tagged and available under public licences.
Successful Online Session of the CLASSLA Workshop
The CLARIN Knowledge Centre for South Slavic Languages (CLASSLA) in Slovenia held a successful getting-to-know-each-other online session of the CLASSLA workshop on 6 May 2020. The face-to-face workshop that was initially planned to take place in Ljubljana from 6-8 May 2020 was postponed due to the COVID-19 crisis.
During the online session the future steps for the workshop and the K-Centre were discussed and the results of the online survey taken by the participants were reviewed. Finally, the ReLDI centre for linguistic data and CLARIN ERIC funding opportunities were presented.
The online session was considered to be an enjoyable experience by all 42 participants.
User Research Survey for Upcoming Discovery Service
Researchers and academics from the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) at any stage of their careers - from Master student to full professor - who are currently working in a European country are invited to take part in a User Research Survey, which is part of the user research conducted for the European H2020 project TRIPLE.

Registration for the ICTeSSH 2020 3-day virtual conference is open and free of charge thanks to the conference sponsors. Anyone interested in ICT enhanced SSH is welcome to attend the conference!
The conference will bring together SSH researchers, computer scientists, informaticians, publishers, librarians, vendors of research ICT tools, SSH decision makers and others.
EXTENDED Call for Papers and Abstracts: "Language Technologies and Digital Humanities” Conference; New Deadline: 1 June 2020
24-25 September 2020, Ljubljana, Slovenia
The deadline for the submission of papers and abstracts for the LTDH2020 conference has been extended to 1 June 2020.
If needed, the conference will be organized virtually (in which case participation for all the authors of the accepted papers and all other participants will be free of charge). In any scenario, the proceedings will be published as planned.
European Summer School in Digital Humanities Postponed to 3-13 August 2021
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic the 11th European Summer University in Digital Humanities "Culture & Technology" that was scheduled from 28 July to 7 August 2020 at the University of Leipzig is postponed to 2021 (3 to 13 August 2021).
The summer school at the University of Leipzig offers a range of parallel weeklong workshops on important areas of Digital Humanities to students in their final years, (post) graduates, doctoral students, postdocs, teachers, librarians and technical assistants from all over Europe and beyond, who are or wish to be involved in the theoretical, experimental or practical application of computational methods in the various areas of the Humanities, in libraries and archives.
