What’s happening at…CLARINO Norway
On behalf of the H2020 project CLARIN-PLUS, the CLARINO partner at the University of Bergen hosted a workshop on "Facilitating the creation of new national consortia”. The aim of the workshop was to share and exchange information about the situation across the new and upcoming member countries, and to discuss solutions, synergies and cooperation. The main target group of this workshop consisted of the national coordinators from the countries that joined the ERIC over the last year, and those who are preparing to join. The workshop was held near Bergen on 7 March, 2016.
From 14 to 18 March, 2016, CLARINO also hosted a visit by Pavel Straňák from Charles University in Prague, funded by the CLARIN mobility grants scheme. The goal of the visit was to carry out enhancements to the CLARINO Bergen Repository, which is based on the DSpace/LINDAT repository system. Some of the themes for discussion were metadata flow and conversion, licence handling and assignment of PIDs to versioned resources.
The Annual Meeting of the Nordic CLARIN Network (NCN) was held in Oslo from March 14 to 15, 2016. With a grant from NordForsk, this research network aims to exchange experiences with CLARIN-related activities in the Nordic countries. NCN is coordinated by the University of Copenhagen. The 2016 annual meeting was organized by the CLARINO partners at the University of Oslo and the University of Bergen. Topics covered big data, social science use cases, , lemmatizers and non-contemporary resources.

CLARIN-PLUS workshop: "Exploring Spoken Word Data in Oral History Archives"
18 - 19 April 2016 in Oxford, United Kingdom
Currently much unique and valuable spoken language data reside in oral history archives, in the form of digital audio and video, written transcripts and non-digitized recordings. The ‘digital turn’ has had an enormous impact on this archival practice. Various software tools and platforms have been developed to analyze and explore the spoken data but is often not exploited by researchers in the humanities and the social sciences. At the same time oral history data is underused by linguists.
As part of the CLARIN-PLUS project, a two-day workshop will take place at the University of Oxford to share expertise and ideas on this subject matter and to start to discuss possible new collaborations. The workshop will bring together those doing research on oral history archive data, including archivists, language technologists, social scientists and linguists.
