CLARIN CY: Events from Cyprus 


Since 1 May 2019, Cyprus has formally joined the European CLARIN infrastructure, represented by the UNESCO Chair on Digital Cultural Heritage at the Cyprus University of Technology. After joining, CLARIN-CY organized the event ‘Copyright and related Rights in the Digital Single Market Directives’, to inform the participants of the new rules established. Last December, a scientific meeting was held in Nicosia between the Israel Consortium for Digital Culture and Cypriot scientists to discuss possible cooperation between the cultural institutions and universities.

Copyright and related Rights in the Digital Single Market Directives – 16th October 2019. 

The event was hosted by the Digital Heritage Research Lab of the Cyprus University of Technology and the UNESCO Chair on the final compromise approved by the EU of the Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market. The event was in cooperation with all the Cultural Heritage institutions on the island and the Cypriot Photographer association. The EU Member States have until 7th June 2021 to implement the new rules established.

Israel Consortium for Digital Culture visit to Cyprus – 4th – 7th December 2019. 

A scientific meeting was held in Nicosia between Cypriot scientists from the Digital Heritage Research Lab of the Cyprus University of Technology and ten Israeli scientists from the Israel Consortium for Digital Culture. The purpose of their visit was to meet with Cypriot scientists from the Digital Heritage Research Lab of the Cyprus University of Technology in order to discuss possible cooperation between the cultural institutions and universities.
