We are happy to announce that Portal has joined CLARIN !

After years of hard work, Portugal signed the necessary documents and was unanimously welcomed in the CLARIN community already at the meeting of the General Assembly in November 2014.

Although considered a small country in Europe, Portugal is the mother country of Portuguese, which is the 6th language (in number of native speakers) in the world, spread over four continents. The Portuguese national CLARIN node ensures easier research and better access to data and tools on the Portuguese language by all users of the international infrastructure. It makes available data sets, processing tool and services that are specific to the Portuguese language, in which the contribution of the national consortium becomes crucial and distinctive.

Antonio Branco, the national CLARIN representative of Portugal, says: "Like other members, the joining of Portugal to CLARIN supports its researchers in contributing for the advancement of the state of the art in the study of human language and its interdisciplinary leveraging impact. And helps the language policy of the country in meeting its responsibility vis a vis the key historical heritage that is represented by the Portuguese language."
